Rock Cats’ Late Rally Stuns Thunder

Jeff Marquez joins Hank Fuerst on the SBLI Pre-Game Show…

(Trenton, NJ) – After leading for the majority of the night in a crucial Eastern Division tilt, the Trenton Thunder (64-67) allowed three runs in the top of the ninth inning to the New Britain Rock Cats (67-65) in a 4-2 loss in front of 6,041 fans on Friday night at Waterfront Park.  In the second game of a four-game set, Joe Benson’s two-run triple off of Thunder closer Ryan Pope in the ninth inning provided just enough for the Rock Cats in their clutch win over the Thunder.  The loss, Trenton’s fifteenth in 23 games in August, drops the Thunder to three games below .500 for the first time since May 3.

Air goes whoosh in ninth

That one sure was deflating

Running out of time

With a woeful ninth

Your playoff aspirations

Fade into autumn
