Friday’s postponement set up a doubleheader on Saturday with two seven-inning contests beginning at 6:05 PM…
RHP Jeff Marquez will return to a Trenton Thunder uniform for the first time since 2008 and appear in a Major League rehab on behalf of the Yankees tonight for the Thunder. The righty originally came up with the Thunder in the Yankees system but was traded to the White Sox in the 2008 offseason in the Nick Swisher deal. Marquez, who made his Major League debut on July 9, 2010, with the White Sox, was designated for assignment in June of this year and claimed off of waivers by the Yankees. In three June relief appearances with the Yankees this season, the Vacaville, CA-native allowed one earned run in 4.0 innings pitched.
LHP Mike Ballard will make his thirteenth start this season for Bowie and his second against the Thunder. On July 22, Ballard hurled six innings of one-run ball against Trenton to improve to 7-0, 2.90 on the season. Since that point, the righty from Norfolk, VA has gone 1-1 with a 5.04 ERA.
RHP Graham Stoneburner will make his eighth start of the season for the Thunder tonight in game two. Since coming back from a neck injury that sidelined him for three months, the righty is 0-2 with a 3.58 ERA in four starts.
RHP Eddie Gamboa will get the spot start in game two for the Bowie Baysox. In seven starts this season, Gamboa is 0-4 with a 4.73 ERA. As a reliever this year, the righty is 2-1 with a 1.46 ERA with four saves in ten outings.
The Bank of Princeton’s Hank’s Take it to the Bank: Between the two games tonight, the Thunder will use five pitchers or less. Season Stats: .462 batting average (54-117, hit streak: -1)
