After dropping Friday’s game one to Altoona, the Thunder grabbed a clutch 5-3 victory on Saturday night at Blair County Ballpark in the middle game of the three-game set. Trenton now has an opportunity to grab a series win over Altoona with a victory in the rubber game on Sunday evening. A win in the final game that these two teams will play against one another in 2011 will even the season series at five apiece. With New Hampshire’s loss and Reading’s win last night, the Thunder gained a game on first place but remain one game back in the Eastern Division’s Wild Card Standings.
RHP Dellin Betances gets the nod for the Thunder in this series finale against the Curve on Sunday evening. The righty from Brooklyn last worked on Tuesday night in Trenton, receiving a loss against the Akron Aeros in four innings of three-run ball. Betances received a no decision against Altoona on July 1 in Trenton, allowing five runs in five innings.
RHP Phil Irwin will make his ninth start of the season this evening for the Curve, coming off back-to-back wins. The righty from Memphis picked up a win on Tuesday at home against Binghamton, allowing two runs in five innings. Irwin won against the Thunder on July 1 in Trenton, allowing five runs on ten hits in five innings.
