The Trenton Thunder head into Wednesday’s middle game with the Akron Aeros with a chance to reverse the team’s recent struggles. After winning four straight road games, including a three-game sweep over Akron, last week, the Thunder have returned home and lost four of five games. Despite the recent lack of success, the Thunder are still tied atop the Eastern Division’s Wild Card Standings. After this three-game set with the AA Affiliates of the Cleveland Indians, the Thunder head to Altoona for a brief three-game set before returning home.
RHP Graham Stoneburner will make his fifth start of the season for the Thunder tonight after returning to Trenton’s starting rotation five days ago after a three month layoff due to an injury. The righty received a no decision on Friday against Richmond, hurling six innings of two-run baseball. The former Clemson Tiger has not given up more than one earned run in each of his first four starts the season for the Thunder. The 23-year-old Stoneburner was a 14th round selection by the Yankees in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft.
LHP Matt Packer will make his twenty-first start of the season for the Aeros tonight at Waterfront Park. The lefty from Memphis last worked on Friday at home against Erie. In the outing, Packer did not allow an earned run in 8.2 innings but received the loss as the Aeros were blanked by the SeaWolves. Packer, a 32nd round selection in the 2009 June Draft out of Virginia, started against the Thunder at Waterfront Park on September 2, 2010, giving up one run on five hits in seven innings.
The Bank of Princeton’s Hank’s Take it to the Bank: Damon Sublett will drive in a run tonight. Season Stats: .437 batting average (45-103, hit streak: -3)
