Heading into tonight’s third game of a four-game set with the Richmond Flying Squirrels (San Francisco Giants), the Thunder are looking to stop a couple of notable streaks. Not only have the Squirrels won eight straight times over Trenton, but the last six losses have featured the Thunder blowing a lead. Trenton also needs a win tonight to avoid losing three straight at home for just the second time all season. After this series with the Flying Squirrels and an off day on Monday, the Thunder will welcome the Akron Aeros to town for a three-game series.
LHP Shaeffer Hall will make his nineteenth start of the season for the Thunder tonight and his third start of the season against the Squirrels. In two starts against Richmond this season, the lefty is 2-0 with a 1.26 ERA. Hall won in his last outing, a 6.1 inning, three-earned run performance on Sunday in Bowie in a 6-4 Thunder win. So far this season, Hall has started twelve times following a Thunder loss, leading the team to an 10-2 record in that span.
LHP Ryan Verdugo will make his twentieth start of the season tonight for the Squirrels, looking to provide his team a series win. Verdugo has made two solid starts this season against the Thunder, receiving two no decisions and allowing just two earned runs in 10.2 innings pitched. The lefty won in his last start on Monday, hurling seven innings in a 3-2 Squirrel win in Erie. The former LSU Tiger was a 9th round selection by the Giants in 2008.
