In tonight’s three-game series finale with the Akron Aeros, the Thunder not only have a chance to sweep the Double A Affiliates of the Cleveland Indians, but the team can secure just its second winning road trip of 2011. After losing 11 straight road games, Trenton’s 4-3 win last night gave the team their third straight victory away from Waterfront Park. Once this finale of the seven-game road trip is complete, the Thunder will head home to open a seven-game homestand with Richmond and these Aeros tomorrow night.
LHP Manny Banuelos’ twentieth start of the season tonight will add to his team lead and briefly tie him atop the Eastern League in starts made. The 20 year-old lefty from Durango, Mexico will face the Akron Aeros for the first time in 2011 and for the second time in his career. After posting a 3-1 record with a 3.50 ERA through his first 14 starts this season, Banuelos has gone 0-4, 4.46 ERA in his last five starts.
RHP Joe Gardner will get the pearl for the Aeros tonight, making his nineteenth start of the season for his squad. A third round pick by the Indians in 2009 out of UC-Santa Barbara, Gardner started opposite Craig Heyer on May 7, giving up a run in 4.1 innings at Canal Park.
