The Thunder kick-off a three-game series with the Erie SeaWolves (Detroit Tigers) tonight at Waterfront Park and will need a win to avoid the team’s first three-game home losing streak in 2011. This is the first and only appearance the SeaWolves will make in Trenton this season. In mid-May, Trenton split a rain-shortened, two-game series in Erie.
RHP Dellin Betances will get the nod from Tony Franklin today as the Thunder open a three-game set with Erie. The righty, who hasn’t worked since July 7, is coming off one of his better outings of the season. In game one of a doubleheader in Richmond, the righty only gave-up one run in six innings and retired 14 of 18 to end the game. Currently sporting the third-lowest ERA in the Eastern League, Betances has never faced the Erie SeaWolves.
LHP Casey Crosby, the Western Division’s starting pitcher in the 2011 Eastern League All Star Game, will face the Thunder for the second time this season. On May 17, the lefty hurled six shutout innings in a 1-0 SeaWolves’ victory. Crosby also last worked on July 7 when he received a loss in Harrisburg (6.0 IP, 8 H, 5 R).
The Bank of Princeton’s Hank’s Take it to the Bank: The Thunder will smack at least eight hits tonight. Season Stats: 36 wins, 51 losses (streak: L9)
