From the weather to the on-field performance, nothing went right for the Trenton Thunder in their recent four-game sweep at the hands of the Richmond Flying Squirrels in Virginia. The sweep also results in the Thunder losing five straight games, the most amount of games lost in succession this season by the Thunder. The Thunder will try to avoid losing their sixth straight ball game when they open a four-game set with the Reading Phillies at FirstEnergy Stadium Friday night at 7:05 PM. It’s the last of three trips for Trenton to Reading in 2011.
LHP Manny Banuelos gets the nod for the Thunder after receiving a loss on Sunday at Waterfront Park against Altoona. In the outing, the lefty allowed four runs (one earned) on seven hits in just 4.2 innings. This will be Banuelos’ third start against the R-Phils this season and his team-leading 17th overall.
RHP Tyler Cloyd gets the pearl from Reading skipper Mark Parent in this series-opening contest. The righty will make his seventh start of the season and his second against the Thunder. On June 7, Cloyd was strong in five innings at home against Trenton, allowing just two runs and receiving a no decision. In his last three starts, Cloyd is 2-0 with a 4.95 ERA.
