Derek Jeter will rejoin the Thunder for the second of two Major League rehab assignments on Sunday night at Waterfront Park as the Thunder attempt a series win over the Altoona Curve. The Captain was tested in his five innings of last night’s walk-off win. He singled, lined out and walked in three plate appearances and had four 6-3 groundouts as well as a 6-4-3 double play in the field. Tonight’s game wraps a seven-game homestand for the Thunder, who will embark on an eight-game road trip to Richmond and Reading after tonight’s game.
LHP Manny Banuelos will make his team-leading sixteenth start of the season for the Thunder, coming off back-to-back strong outings. On Tuesday against New Hampshire, the lefty hurled five innings with a solo homerun to Adeiny Hechavarria his only blemish in a no decision. The 20 year-old Banuelos received a no decision on June 1 at home against Altoona, allowing just one earned run in five innings.
RHP Kyle McPherson will make his fifth career AA start tonight for the Curve. The righty from Mobile is 1-2 with a 3.32 ERA through his first four outings with the Curve after being called up from Bradenton on June 10. On Tuesday, McPherson surrendered two runs in five innings at home against the R-Phils.
