Game 79: Altoona Curve (34-43) @ Trenton Thunder (46-32)

Phil Hughes tips his hat to the crowd after a dominating performance Wednesday.

Today’s Game Notes

Coming off a series that featured two Major League Rehabs (Litsch, Hughes) and a three-game sweep of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the Thunder welcome the Altoona Curve to Waterfront Park for their second of two trips in 2011. The Curve took two out of three from the Thunder in early June and became the first of just two teams to win a series a Waterfront Park in 2011. This four-game, July Fourth weekend series will wrap a seven-game homestand in Trenton.

LHP Steve Garrison will make his return to the Waterfront Park after picking up his first win in a Thunder uniform on Saturday in New Britain. The lefty from nearby Ewing, New Jersey last appeared in Trenton on May 3 when he had to leave a game against Portland after the first inning. Garrison, originally drafted by the Brewers out of the Hun School in Princeton in 2005, was claimed off of Waivers by the Yankees from the Padres in late 2010. This is start number eight in 2011 for Garrison and his first career outing against Altoona.

RHP Aaron Pribanic will make his fourteenth start of the season for the Curve and his second against the Thunder. On May 31, the righty hurled seven shutout innings on just five hits to completely shut down the Thunder. The Plano, Texas native and former Nebraska Cornhusker has gone 0-3 with a 8.33 ERA since that start.

The Bank of Princeton’s Hank’s Take it to the Bank: After hitting three balls hard yesterday, Melky Mesa will have an extra base hit in tonight’s ballgame. Season Stats: 31 wins, 42 losses (streak: W1)
